Qatar won their first World Handball Championship in Denmark and Germany after a 28-23 victory over Egypt on Sunday in the Arab standoff between them in the second round of Group D matches in the first round of the tournament.

Qatar won their first two points in the group to take the lead temporarily until the rest of the tour ended, while Egypt remained without any points in the back of the standings after receiving the second loss in a row.

Qatar were the best side in the game, finishing the first half with a 15-12 lead, before extending the lead to five goals.

Al-Annabi managed to make up for his surprise loss 23-24 to Angola in the first round. The Egyptian team, who lost 24-27 to Sweden in their opening matches, doubled their position to qualify for the second round.

The top three teams in each group qualify for the second round, with teams from 4th to 6th in each group qualifying for the President's Cup on the 13th to 24th.

In another game, however, in the second set, Bahrain received their second defeat in the tournament with a 23-28 loss to their Macedonian counterpart, with the Arab team remaining without points at the bottom of the standings.
