Serbian Novak Djokovic, who can this week delight the world No.1 Rafael Nadal, has started his Masters 1000 in Paris, leaving the Portuguese Joao Sousa in the second round Tuesday 7-5, 6-1.

If the first set was a little tighter than expected, the Serb has then largely taken the measure of the Portuguese in the second set. A rather quiet match for the Serb who can dethrone Nadal if he spends more than the Spaniard at the Masters 1000 in Paris.

Nadal, stalled since September and his retirement in the semifinals of the US Open, must make him his entry against fellow countryman Fernando Verdasco Wednesday.

Djokovic will meet him in the next round the Bosnian Damir Dzumhur.
