The message from Mediapro's boss Jaume Roures is clear: "We reject the idea of under-licensing some of our rights". The Spanish group which has recovered TV rights of Ligue 1 for the period 2020-2024 instead of Canal + does not wish to resell them.

The boss of the Spanish group Mediapro, Jaume Roures, who acquired in the spring the majority of rights Ligue 1, ensures that he is not willing to resell them and expects 4 million subscribers to be profitable, in an interview Tuesday at Figaro.

"We reject the idea of under-licensing some of our rights," said the boss of the group who created the surprise by buying the rights of the League 1 for the period 2020-2024 against nearly 800 million euros at the expense of Canal + which currently owns them.

"25 euros per month"

"For if we resell a portion of the rights to Canal +, for example, we would impoverish the offer of our own channel and this is not the goal," added the Catalan businessman, who conceded that the price of the subscription to 25 euros per month could fall.

"I mentioned the price of 25 euros per month for our channel, which is a simple calculation of the price paid for the rights and the reservoir of three million subscribers. But if we manage to attract more subscribers, the price could go down, " he said.

According to Mr. Roures figures, the channel would be in equilibrium with 3.5 million subscribers. "And with 4 million, we would be profitable," he assured.
