Petra Kvitová has won the 26th WTA title from her career on Saturday. The Czech was in the final of the WTA tournament in Sydney in three sets too strong for 'home player' Ashleigh Barty.

The 28-year-old Kvitová started dramatically in the Australian hard court by losing the first set in a big way, but she got a good start and finished after 2 hours and 22 minutes at the longest end: 1-6, 7-5 and 7 -6 (3).

Barty was in the semifinals still responsible for the elimination of Kiki Bertens. The 22-year-old Australian, the number fifteen of the world, remains on three WTA titles due to her defeat in the final.

Kvitová won the tournament in Sydney for the first time in 2015 and, due to her hard-won victory over Barty, she confidently joins the Australian Open, which starts on Monday.

The number eight in the world takes on in Melbourne in the first round against qualifier and compatriot Karolína Muchová. Barty meets Luksika Kumkhum from Thailand.
