Fenerbahçe took a point against rival Galatasaray on Friday in the first game since the resignation of trainer Phillip Cocu: 2-2. The team of interim coaches Erwin Koeman and Chris van der Weerden came back sharply in the Türk Telekom Stadyumu.

Halfway, it was 1-0 by a goal from former AZ-player Ryan Donk. Just after the break, the swinging Fenerbahçe seemed to be heading for a new defeat by a Martin Linnes goal.

The team of Koeman and Van der Weerden, however, proved resilient, because after an hour or so Mathieu Valbuena used a penalty kick and six minutes later, the Brazilian Jailson even led the equalizer. That's it.

The 47-year-old Cocu was sacked by Fenerbahçe on Sunday after four months. That news followed less than half an hour after the 1-3 defeat against Ankaragücü. In anticipation of a successor, assistants Koeman and Van der Weerden take the honors.

Cocu came last summer from PSV and started in the competition with a victory, but then it went quickly less. The formation from Istanbul won only one of the last nine league matches under his leadership. Fenerbahçe also performed poorly in Europe.

Despite the draw against Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe is still the number fifteen of the Turkish league with ten points out of eleven matches. Galatasaray gives as number two a point on Istanbul Basaksehir, which this weekend the topper against Besiktas plays.
