Volunteer in Tochigi City Damage of 13,000 houses due to heavy rain October 30th 17:24

Amid the shortage of volunteers in the area affected by Typhoon No. 19, Tochigi City, which suffered the most damage from flooding in Tochigi Prefecture, has been volunteered by other local governments in the prefecture.

In Tochigi city, the heavy rain caused by Typhoon No. 19 caused the most 13,000 buildings in the prefecture to be flooded, but the shortage of volunteers has become serious.

On the 30th, a volunteer bus planned by the Social Welfare Council of Nikko City, etc. arrived in Tochigi City, and about 30 Nikko citizens in their 20s to 70s were involved in the activities.

Volunteers were divided into groups and headed to the area where the damage was most severe. They were flooded on the floor and loaded or separated household goods that had been wet.

A 53-year-old woman whose home was flooded on the floor said, “Thank you for carrying it out and collecting it all at once. It ’s really encouraging because it ’s done hundreds of times faster than doing it yourself.”

A 24-year-old male volunteer who participated said, “I wanted to help as a citizen of Tochigi Prefecture. I want to work without forgetting the thoughts of those affected.”

Nikko City's volunteer bus will be active in the prefecture on the 5th of next month, and will consider future activities while watching the situation.
