According to a survey by Infratest dimap, half of the Hessian voters have seen the poll as a good opportunity to give the Federal Government a lesson. 86 percent regard the grand coalition in Berlin as too divisive.

CDU and SPD have suffered heavy losses in the state election in Hesse on Sunday. According to the forecasts of ARD and ZDF, the CDU of Prime Minister Volker Bouffier remains the strongest force, but at just under 28 per cent, it records its worst result since 1966. The SPD falls to a historic low of 20 percent. Big winners are the Greens and the AfD (19.5 and 12 percent, respectively).
