Pressure has increased inside and outside Israel on Netanyahu because of his handling of the war on Gaza (French)

Al Jazeera's correspondent said that the General Assembly of the Israeli Knesset will vote tomorrow, Monday, on a proposal of no confidence in the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, presented by opposition leader Yair Lapid, which is the second attempt this January.

Israeli media had reported that the “There is a Future” party would present in the Knesset tomorrow a motion of no confidence in Netanyahu’s government, and quoted a statement from the party that the motion comes in the wake of the government’s decision to put what it described as a “shameful” budget to a vote.

The Front and Arab for Change bloc in the Israeli Knesset also announced that, on Monday, it will submit a motion of no confidence in the government, calling for an end to the war on the Gaza Strip, concluding a prisoner exchange deal and launching a political path towards a peace process.

The Arab bloc’s proposal stated that the war government brings destruction that leads to the bloodshed of thousands of dead Israelis and Palestinians, while the government refuses to set any political horizon for the peace agreement, because it is waging a battle for political survival, dependent on continuing the war in Gaza, according to the statement.

The proposal also stated that the Netanyahu government prevents reaching any agreement to return the detainees as part of the prisoner exchange process, because the continuation of the war contributes to its continuation, while the price is the lives of the detainees and the lives of the two peoples.

The proposal stressed that there is no alternative to ending the war to launch a serious political path leading to the conclusion of a just peace process.

The process of withdrawing confidence requires a vote of at least 61 members of the Knesset on the proposal, and the government coalition led by Netanyahu has a majority of 64 seats in the Knesset, which makes it difficult to pass the proposal.

Pressure on Netanyahu

The Israeli Knesset had previously failed to hold a session of no confidence in the Netanyahu government, called for by Labor Party leader Merav Michaeli.

The failure of the session came after it was boycotted by members of the ruling coalition in Israel, as only 18 members approved the no-confidence proposal, and it required the approval of 61 (out of 120) in order for the proposal to be passed.

Pressure increased inside and outside Israel on Netanyahu, due to the way he managed the war on Gaza and his failure to achieve the goals he announced for it, as well as not concluding a deal to exchange prisoners and detainees with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), amid accusations that he is seeking to prolong the war in order to remain in power for as long as possible. .

Public opinion polls in Israel indicate a continued decline in the popularity of Netanyahu and his Likud party.

On Friday, the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth said that former Israeli security and civilian officials called in an open letter for the removal of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, due to the failure in the war on Gaza.

Earlier today, clashes broke out between Israeli police and demonstrators in Tel Aviv, raising slogans demanding the departure of Netanyahu's government.

Israeli protesters are demonstrating continuously in central Tel Aviv and various areas, demanding the return of prisoners detained in the Gaza Strip, and the holding of early elections to overthrow the Prime Minister’s government, while Netanyahu says that the demonstrations of the detainees’ families are not useful, but rather increase the demands of the Hamas movement and delay their return.
