An American senator held the Israeli government partly responsible for the deterioration of security in Israel, while another senator said that 49 Senate representatives submitted an amendment to the military aid package to Israel, affirming the two-state solution.

Democratic Senator from the US state of Virginia, Tim Kaine, held Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu partly responsible for the attack of last October 7 and the deterioration of security in Israel.

In an interview with the American news network MSNBC, Kane said that Netanyahu fought the Palestinian state throughout his political life, by widening the division between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

For his part, US Senator Bernie Sanders said that the United States is complicit in the horrific tragedy that the Palestinians are experiencing in Gaza now.

In a speech before the Senate, Sanders called on American lawmakers to work together to stop it, and to exert all possible pressure on Netanyahu to put an end to this nightmare, as he described it.

The two-state solution

On the other hand, Democratic Senator Brian Schatz said that 49 Senate representatives submitted an amendment to the military aid package to Israel, affirming the two-state solution.

49 out of a total of 51 Democratic members of the Senate supported an amendment that supports a negotiated solution to the conflict, leading to the existence of two Israeli and Palestinian states living side by side, ensuring that “Israel remains a Jewish, democratic, and secure state, and meets the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinians to establish their state.”

Schatz said in a press conference, "What will determine the future of Israel and Palestine is whether there is hope or not. The two-state solution must be this hope."

In a related context, a number of members of the House of Representatives called on the administration of President Joe Biden to evaluate the State Department’s compliance with the laws for transferring weapons and military aid to Israel.

The signatories called on President Biden to take immediate steps to implement the laws in this regard.

As the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip intensified, Netanyahu said - in a press conference this month - that he opposes the establishment of any Palestinian state that does not guarantee Israel’s security.

His speech sparked international concern, including in the United States, Israel's largest supporter.

Washington insists that the two-state solution is the only possible way to achieve lasting peace in the region.

Many members of Biden's Democratic Party are pressuring the administration to do more to deal with the heavy losses inflicted on Palestinian civilians.

Due to the war on Gaza since October 7, 2023.
