UNRWA confirmed that all its schools in Gaza have been closed due to the war (Al Jazeera)

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced that all of its schools in the Gaza Strip have been closed due to the war, depriving 300,000 children of education.

A joint statement - issued by UNRWA, the United Nations Educational and Scientific Organization (UNESCO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on the occasion of World Education Day - confirmed that more than 625,000 students have been deprived of education since the start of the war on Gaza, while 22,000 teachers have lost their jobs in Education sector.

In their statement issued today, Wednesday, on the occasion of International Education Day, the organizations confirmed that the war led to damage to 75% of school buildings in the Gaza Strip.

She called for an end to the war in Gaza, and stressed the need to end the conflict to enable Palestinian students and teachers to safely return to education.

The statement indicated that 75% of school buildings throughout the Gaza Strip were damaged due to the war, in addition to higher education institutions also being exposed to damage.

The Ministry of Education announced that 4,327 male and female students were martyred, and 7,819 others were injured, and 231 teachers and administrators were martyred, and 756 of them sustained various injuries, as of last Saturday morning.
