The American police announced the death of a gunman suspected of killing 8 people in mass shooting operations over two days in various locations in a suburb of Chicago, after his clash with security forces in the state of Texas ended with him shooting himself and committing suicide late yesterday evening, Monday.

Police in the town of Joliet (the southwestern suburb of Chicago) explained that the suspect, named Romeo Nance (23 years old), was located near Natalia, Texas, after they published pictures of him and his car.

Nance - who police described as a dangerous gunman - is suspected of shooting and killing 8 people in 3 locations in the Chicago suburbs on Sunday and Monday, leading to a search operation that left area residents in a state of tension and anxiety.

The police did not have any information about the motives for the crime, but they expressed their belief that the victims were members of one family and that the suspect knew them.

In details of the shooting incidents, police indicated that the victims were found in 3 separate residences several hours after a warning on social media that Nance should be considered “armed and dangerous.”

One of the dead was found the day before yesterday, Sunday, in a house in Will County, and then 7 others were found yesterday, Monday, in two houses in the same building in the town of Joliet, located about 10 kilometers northwest of the scene of the accident that was first discovered by police.

The authorities in the town of Joliet explained that they also believe that another shooting in the town led to the injury of a man the day before yesterday, Sunday, related to a series of acts of violence, without giving any other details.

Mass shootings have become alarmingly common across the United States, with an American law facilitating the purchase of firearms in most states and their number increasing relative to citizens.

The number of individual weapons in the country exceeds the number of citizens, and one in three adults owns a firearm, and approximately 50% of adults live in a home that has a firearm.
