While Gérald Darmanin presented a plan on Monday to secure the Olympic flame during its journey in France, security is being strengthened as the sporting event approaches.

And for this, a new anti-drone drone will be deployed by the army.

A kind of flying spider that can capture suspicious objects.

A security bubble of 100 police officers and gendarmes around the Olympic flame.

This is the plan presented by Gérald Darmanin on Monday to secure the torch during its journey in France, from Marseille to Paris.

This mobile force unit will be positioned at the front and rear of the convoy.

The Olympic Games will therefore be under very high security.

As the threat can also come from the air, the army will deploy a new anti-drone drone.

Eight examples delivered to the French army

“RapidEagle” is his name.

“Aigle Rapide”, in French, takes the form of a six-kilo drone with a futuristic look.

It has two long legs connected by a net.

With a wingspan of 1.20 meters and a speed of up to 100 km/h, this aircraft is capable of capturing another drone of the same weight in flight and bringing it back to dry land.

A solution which did not exist until now and which eliminates the risk of falling, for example, above a crowd.

The machine was designed and developed by the French group Thales.

According to information from Europe 1, it will be able to pounce on its prey this summer.

It still has a few verification and qualification tests to validate, but, from a military source, we are rather confident.

This anti-drone drone system was even presented last week to Emmanuel Macron.

Eight examples should be delivered to the French army in the coming weeks for initial entry into service on the eve of the start of the Olympic Games.
