kyiv's strike hit a market in Donetsk, a large city in eastern Ukraine, in Donbass.

Located around 20 kilometers from the front line, it came under the control of pro-Russian separatists led by Moscow in 2014, and is regularly the target of Ukrainian bombings.

The results of this Sunday's attack are one of the deadliest in several months.

“

The market was attacked on Sunday, when it is busiest

,” criticized the region’s pro-Russian leader, Denis Pouchiline, on Telegram.

The Russian Foreign Ministry denounces a barbaric act: “

The neo-Nazi regime in Kiev, supported by the United States and its satellites, has once again committed a barbaric terrorist act against the civilian population of Russia

”, can - we read in the press release from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Fire at Baltic gas terminal

Furthermore, a fire broke out this Sunday in a gas terminal on the Russian Baltic Sea.

The fire was caused by “an external factor”, announced the company Novatek, manager of the site, without giving any clue at this stage.

“

According to initial information, the fire was caused by an external factor.

There are no victims, nor any threat to the life and health of employees

,” Novatek, Russia’s leading exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), said in a brief statement.

The site is located 110 kilometers west of St. Petersburg near the border with Estonia, on the Baltic Sea, and 1,000 km from the border with Ukraine.

If the Russian company, like the local authorities, have not at this stage mentioned the cause of the fire, Ukrainian forces this week claimed responsibility for two attacks against oil depots on Russian soil, one in the region of Leningrad (north-west) - where Ust-Luga is located -, and the other in the Bryansk region, bordering Ukraine, causing a violent fire.

The Russian Defense Ministry, in several press releases, reported on Sunday "thwarted" Ukrainian attacks during the night, without mentioning any incident at this stage in the Leningrad region.

According to Novatek's website, the Ust-Luga complex processes natural gas into naphtha (a liquid mixture intermediate between gasoline and kerosene), aircraft fuel and fuel components for boats.

It is also from the town of Oust-Louga that the tubes of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline leave towards Germany, an infrastructure which however never entered service because it was the victim of sabotage in September 2022.
