. That is why today I am suspending my campaign," explained De Santis in a video broadcast through social networks, in which he also shows his support for Donald Trump.
The announcement came as former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley made her closing argument in New Hampshire on Sunday to challenge Donald Trump as the Republican presidential nominee.
A poll released Sunday showed Trump widening his lead in the state to once again secure his party's nomination. The former president is the
top choice for 50% of likely Republican primary voters
, widening his lead over Haley , which has 39% support, according to the final CNN/University of New Hampshire poll released Sunday.
The survey, conducted from Tuesday to Friday, had a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
The poll showed Trump gaining supporters since early January, when 39% of respondents said they would vote for him.
Haley's level of support also rose, from 32% in the previous poll, as other Republicans dropped out of the race. DeSantis canceled several television appearances planned for this Sunday to return to New Hampshire for a hastily scheduled late-night campaign event.
