As a response, Rosrybolovstvo proposed banning the import of seafood from the Faroe Islands, Barbin added.

“Cooperation with the Faroe Islands in the field of fisheries can only be carried out on the basis of mutual benefit,” the ambassador emphasized.

He added that Moscow does not agree to unilateral concessions, and also does not intend to sacrifice the interests of its fishermen.

In accordance with the agreement between Russia and the Faroe Islands, Moscow provides the islands with a fishing quota in the Barents Sea.

Russia, in turn, gets the same opportunity in Faroese waters.

On December 13 last year, Flemming Splidsboel, a senior researcher at the Danish Institute of International Studies, said that the extension of the fisheries agreement between Russia and the Faroe Islands against the backdrop of the Ukrainian conflict put Denmark in a “stupid position.”

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, emphasized that statements about the alleged threat of Russian fishermen to Denmark are part of the West’s campaign against Russia.
