The European Union had classified Hamas as a “terrorist” organization (Anatolia)

The European Union announced on Friday the imposition of sanctions on the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Islamic Jihad, and included six individuals on its blacklist to freeze assets and ban visas.

The Union also announced that it may target with sanctions those who support the two movements with money.

He said - in a statement - that among those included in the sanctions was the prominent member of Hamas’ investment office, Musa Dodin, along with financiers residing in Sudan, Lebanon, and Algeria.

The statement added, "This new system of sanctions will continue to be implemented until January 19, 2025, and will be placed under continuous review and renewed or amended when necessary."

“We have included six people who participated in financing or facilitating the financing of Hamas,” a senior European Union official said.

"Their assets in the European Union will be frozen and they will be prohibited from entering our territory," he added.

Last Tuesday, the European Union included the head of the Hamas movement in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, on the “terrorism” blacklist, just as it had previously included the movement on the list of “terrorist” organizations.

The new sanctions imposed on the two movements come before the foreign ministers of the European Union countries hold separate talks in Brussels next Monday with the foreign ministers of Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

Diplomats say that European Union countries are also working to impose sanctions on "extremist" Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank.
