Invited on Tuesday by Pascal Praud in the program "Pascal Praud et vous", every day from 11 a.m. to 13 p.m. on Europe 1, the philosopher Luc Ferry took a look at today's society, believing that we are experiencing "a flaw in civilization that is very problematic". Luc Ferry, who holds a degree in philosophy, likes to talk about the evolution of society. Speaking to Europe 1 on the programme Pascal Praud et vous, the former Minister of National Education under Jacques Chirac (2002-2004), talks about the good sales of books on positive psychology and personal development theory and for him, "this comes from the fact that the ideologies of the aftermath have collapsed" throughout the West.

Luc Ferry links this evolution of society to the collapse of Catholicism and communism. "They were ideologies of the aftermath (...). As a result, positive psychology and the merchants of happiness have replaced the great religions of earthly salvation and heavenly salvation," says the philosophy professor.

The quest for happiness in the virtual rather than the real

All of this has repercussions on the functioning of society itself, Luc Ferry continues. "If I only have one life, I'm not going to waste it to earn it," he said, referring to vacancies in notoriously difficult fields, such as hotels and restaurants and bus drivers.

For Luc Ferry, society now seeks happiness "here and now in the virtual, rather than the real". "I think we're experiencing a rift in civilization that is very problematic because in China and Russia, that's not how we think," he told Europe 1 radio.
