In Valence, in the Drôme, the fear and anger of the parents of pupils of two schools in the working-class district of Le Plan, also known as the ZUP, following threats on social networks. Parents have decided to warn the authorities about the atmosphere of insecurity in the neighbourhood where drug traffickers are rampant.

The Jules Vallès and Pierre Brossolette schools are located in the heart of the working-class Plan district, in the middle of the blocks of buildings. And since Monday, police officers have been present in front of the gates, at the entrance and exit times of the students. The consequence of this threat of kidnapping that terrorizes some parents.

The mayor of Valencia files a complaint

"I'm really scared for my children so I asked the teachers not to let my children out if they don't see me or my husband. Because what do children have to do with these stories? In any case, we are afraid. Last summer there was a shooting near the school. And now, as a mother, I prefer my children to be at home rather than outside," says a frightened Lydia, who comes to drop her daughters off at school.

Parents believe that these threats could come from young people in Fontbarlettes, the other sensitive area of the city. Neighborhood rivalries against a backdrop of drug trafficking. "Between Fontbarlettes and here at the Plan, there are always problems and settling of scores. You could say that there is a war between them. But why should children be afraid to go to school? Then they ask me why there are police in front of the school? What do I say to the children?" said a father of three. The city's mayor has announced his intention to file a complaint.
