According to the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), the number of Islamist threats decreased last year. Currently, 483 people are classified as a threat, the »Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung« quoted a BKA spokesman. Of these, 97 people are in custody in Germany, 208 are at large and 178 people are abroad. In the previous year, the number of Islamist threats was still 520 people, the spokesman said.

Regardless of the decline, the risk in Germany remains high. The war between Israel and Hamas could further exacerbate the situation. If the conflict continues, "an increased emotionalization and mobilization activity in Germany is to be expected, predominantly on the side of the pro-Palestinian spectrum," said the BKA spokesman.

This applies not only to terrorist organizations such as the so-called "Islamic State" and al-Qaeda, but also to individuals. For them, the developments in Israel and Gaza could be a "dedicating and subjectively perceived encouragement" for an attack.
