The number of visitors to the county museum rose to over 142,000, an increase of 16,000 compared to previous years.
"Many visitors know what we offer, but at the same time they are pleasantly surprised by our art and our collections, lecturers and activities," says County Museum Director Johan Gärskog.
Vandalorum outside Värnamo has also had a record year.
Sweden trend
The National Association of Swedish Museums recently presented a report on the museums' visits last year. In total, museum visits have increased by just over 6 percent compared to 2022.
"Visitor numbers have climbed upwards for a few years and are now at the top again," says Gunnar Ardelius, Secretary General of the Swedish Museums.
Digital visits
The report shows how many people have taken part in the museums' offerings on the internet in 2023. This includes everything from "visiting" the collections digitally, participating in digital events to experiencing museums via social media.
"The fact that so many millions find their way to museums via the internet shows an impressive effort to meet the public digitally," says Gunnar Ardelius.
