The Office of the Inspector General of the US State Department has published a report on the work of the US mission to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

As follows from the document, in the 2022 fiscal year (ended on September 30, 2022), Washington contributed $6.5 million to the budget of the structure for projects related to Ukraine. At the same time, $3.4 million of this amount was mandatory payments within the framework of the OSCE special monitoring mission, and another $3.1 million were voluntary contributions.

"The Resource Management Division has led the process of providing voluntary contributions to OSCE extrabudgetary programs focused on advancing U.S. interests, including in Ukraine," the report said.

The inspectors explained that the additional funds were spent on humanitarian assistance to Ukrainian citizens, projects to prevent and respond to human trafficking in the crisis, and "public exposure of serious human rights violations" in Ukraine as a result of the conflict with Russia.

In addition, Washington took part in the financing of discussions and seminars held by the OSCE in Odesa and Lviv in August 2021. One of the events dealt with the issues of "media self-regulation" and transformations in the field of journalism in the era of social media.

According to Konstantin Blokhin, a researcher at the Center for Security Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the activities of the United States within the framework of the OSCE fit into the American political course.

"The list fits into the general mainstream of supporting Ukraine and demonizing Russia. The OSCE has ceased to be, and never has been, a sovereign organization. It is only a tool in the hands of the West to achieve specific geopolitical goals. With the money allocated by the United States, you can't really walk around, but they have done some "cosmetic" work," the source told RT.

In December, a Russian delegation was prevented from showing a film about the origins of the crisis in Ukraine during a meeting of the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation.
