Three students at a high school in Reims will go on trial in March on suspicion of assaulting a teacher and an educational assistant on the grounds of their school on Friday, the Reims prosecutor announced on Sunday evening. The teacher and education assistant at the Joliot-Curie high school in Reims were "taken to task" as they tried to separate students who were fighting in the school, the rectorate said.

A total of four students were taken into custody, according to the prosecutor, and three of them, unknown to the judicial services, will be tried on March 20 in the juvenile court. They are being prosecuted for "violence resulting in an ITT (total incapacity for work) of more than eight days", with three aggravating circumstances (violence in a group, against persons in charge of a public service mission, in a school).

"The pupils concerned will be excluded as a precautionary measure"

According to the rectorate, "all the students concerned will be excluded as a precautionary measure pending a disciplinary council" and "a listening unit will be set up for students and staff who express the need". "No threat or aggression, physical or verbal, can be tolerated against staff," Vincent Stanek, rector of the Reims academy, said in a statement.

"All my support to this teacher who was attacked. I strongly condemn this aggression. Offenders must be firmly condemned. The return of respect and authority is becoming essential and urgent!", reacted Arnaud Robinet, the mayor of Reims on X.
