New Year's Day is known to be the day when Swedes eat the most pizza of the year. Last year's New Year's Day also broke a record: sales of pizza tripled compared to a normal Sunday in December, according to statistics from the POS system company Yabie.

In 2022, four pizzas per second were ordered on Foodora. This year, it is expected that there will be six pizzas per second ordered through the platform on January 1.

Choice of the Party Leaders

The most popular among Swedes is kebab pizza, followed by Vesuvio and Hawaii, according to Foodora. Even at Wolt, kebab pizza tops the list. But what do the party leaders choose? Here's how they respond.

Nooshi Dadgostar (L) replies via email that her favorite pizza is Mexicana. Daniel Helldén (MP) says that it will be a Vegetariana.

If Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) gets to choose, it will be a Hawaii.

– Preferably with banana and curry. It has been a favorite for a long time, he writes to SVT.

"Lots of pizza salad"

On New Year's Day, there will be a capricciosa for Magdalena Andersson (S).

"With lots of pizza salad," she told SVT.

Jimmie Åkesson (SD) declined to comment but answered in an interview last year as follows when asked about favorite:

"My absolute favorite is a variation on gyros pizza. In addition to the reasonable ingredients on such a plant, you will need fresh garlic, jalapeño, mushrooms, hot sauce and French fries."

Johan Pehrson (L) gave Annie Lööf, among other things, a pizza dinner at a place of his choice in Stockholm as a departure gift. Last year, he baked a capricciosa when he visited a pizzeria in Västerås. "At least the customer was happy," he said at the time.

C leader Muharrem Demirok's favourite is kebab pizza with extra feferoni – and he goes in opposition to Ulf Kristersson's fruit preferences.

"I would never have bananas on my pizza! Pineapple can work, but never banana," he writes to SVT.
