Sirens sounded on Thursday in towns in the Upper Galilee near the border with Lebanon, and the Israeli army announced the interception of a "suspicious air target" coming from Lebanese territory.

The Israeli army said in a statement, "In continuation of the sirens that were activated in the vicinity of the towns of Doviv, Matat and Sasa (north), the army has successfully intercepted a suspicious air target that crossed the border from Lebanese territory to Israeli territory."

A spokesman for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) told Reuters that a launch from Lebanon towards Israel had been detected, followed by retaliation from Israel.

The agency quoted witnesses as saying they heard explosions along Lebanon's southeastern border with Israel.

The National News Agency (official) reported that strong voices were heard in the border areas of the southern Lebanese city of Tyre, noting that the information indicated that "interceptor missiles rang out of the Iron Dome."

Al Jazeera correspondent confirmed that an Israeli drone fired a missile at an open area in the vicinity of the town of Rashaf in southern Lebanon.

Nabih Berri speaks

On the other hand, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said that the danger to Lebanon and the entire region comes from Israel.

Berri said – in an interview with the Lebanese newspaper "Republic" on Thursday, "Despite the ongoing efforts to extend the truce in Gaza, what is required is to be aware of Israel's aggressive intentions, whether in Gaza, or against Lebanon."

Since the eighth of last October, the border between Lebanon and Israel has witnessed mutual and sporadic shelling between Hezbollah and Palestinian factions in Lebanon on the one hand, and the Israeli army on the other, leaving dead and wounded on both sides of the border. This coincides with the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, which left more than 15,<> martyrs and extensive destruction of infrastructure.
