The death toll of journalists in the Gaza Strip has risen to 16 since Israel launched its aggression on October <> following the "Al-Aqsa Flood" operation launched by the Palestinian resistance in response to the occupation's attacks on the Palestinian people and their holy sites, according to the International Federation of Journalists.

In a statement issued yesterday, the International Federation of Journalists condemned Israel's repeated attacks against journalists and called for an immediate investigation into their deaths.

According to the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate's account, the journalists who were martyred were Muhammad Ali, Khalil Abu Athra, Samih al-Nadi, Issam Bahar, Muhammad Balousha, Abdul Hadi Habib, Hussam Mubarak, Ahmed Shehab, Muhammad Fayez Yousef Abu Matar, Saeed al-Taweel, Muhammad Sobh, Hisham al-Nawajha, Asaad Shamlakh, Muhammad al-Salhi, Ibrahim Lafi and Muhammad Jarghoun.

The syndicate noted that contact with photojournalist Haitham Abdel Wahed was cut off, while the family of journalist Nidal al-Wahidi informed the media that their son was detained by the Israeli army after communication with him was cut off.

The International Federation called on field journalists in the sector to take the necessary precautions, wear occupational safety equipment and not go to coverage without it.

The Israeli occupation targeted journalists with a missile aimed at their car in southern Lebanon on October 13, killing Reuters photographer Essam Abdullah and wounding 3 other journalists, including Al Jazeera correspondent Carmen Jokhadar.
