EU = European Union President von der Leyen expressed his recognition that EVs = electric vehicles made in China are being subsidized by the government to keep prices down and distort competition in the market, and announced that he intends to conduct a survey.

In Europe, an automotive industry group issued a statement last month, stating that EVs made in China are rapidly entering the market, and urging the EU to take measures to increase competitiveness, stating that "China's automobile industry, supported by public funds and the will of the government, is a challenge to Europe."

Under these circumstances, EU President von der Leyen addressed the European Parliament on the 13th and announced his intention to conduct an investigation into Chinese-made EVs, stating, "The price is artificially kept low by huge subsidies from the government, and it is unacceptable because it distorts our market."

Under EU rules, if an investigation determines that EU industry has been exposed to unfair competition and harmed by imported goods subsidized from abroad, measures such as additional tariffs can be imposed as sanctions.

Von der Leyen seems to be considering such measures after referring to Chinese-made solar panels, which the EU provisionally imposed punitive tariffs on 10 years ago.

On the other hand, President von der Leyen stated that he would hold a summit meeting with China by the end of this year, and emphasized his stance of emphasizing dialogue with the Chinese side.
