January 25, 2021 "The action of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Rome, among many difficulties, led to the conclusion of investigations that have identified a picture of serious responsibility, which, soon, will be subject to the scrutiny of a trial, for the consequent penalties to the guilty . We await a full and adequate response from the Egyptian authorities, constantly urged to this end by our diplomacy ".

Thus the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella five years after the kidnapping of Giulio Regeni in Cairo.



"Five years have passed - writes the President of the Republic - since the kidnapping of Giulio Regeni in Cairo, then tortured and brutally killed by his ruthless tormentors. A young Italian, engaged in completing his studies, has seen his projects cruelly torn apart of life with such ferocity as to inflict a very deep wound in the minds of all Italians. to pour out all energy to obtain the truth, to ask that responsibilities be reconstructed and thus affirm that principle of justice which constitutes the fundamental principle of all human coexistence and the inalienable right of every person ".

Gup preliminary hearing for Egyptian agents on April


29 The preliminary hearing before the Rome GUP Pier Luigi Balestrieri for the four secret service agents accused of the kidnapping, torture and murder of Giulio Regeni is scheduled for next 29 April.

On January 20 came the request for indictment for 007 Tariq Sabir, Athar Kamel Mohamed Ibrahim, Uhsam Helmi, Magdi Ibrahim Abdelal Sharif.

The accusations brought against them by the prosecutor Michele Prestipino and by the substitute Sergio Colaiocco range from multiple kidnapping to complicity in aggravated homicide and complicity in aggravated personal injury.
