Andrès Manuel Lopez Obrador, who has maintained most of his activities during the pandemic, has appointed the Secretary of the Interior, Olga Sánchez, to replace him at his press conferences for the week while ensuring that he remains in charge.
“
I will be attentive to public affairs from the National Palace.
For example, tomorrow
(Monday NDLR)
, I will have a telephone interview with President Vladimir Poutine,
”said the man who is nicknamed AMLO in Mexico.
No mask for AMLO
The leftist leader had three public activities over the weekend, the last of them on Friday morning in the state of San Luis Potosi, in the north of the country.
He suffered from heart problems for which he was treated in a private hospital in 2013. He also suffers from hypertension.
However, the latter does not use a mask in public places.
He has only been seen wearing it when traveling by plane.
Its lack of vigilance in its public contacts has also been often
pointed out and criticized
since the start of the pandemic.
Other heads of state and government before him have contracted Covid-19, such as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Brazilian Presidents Jair Bolsonaro, American Donald Trump and French Emmanuel Macron.
Along with his mainland counterparts Bolsonaro and Trump, the Mexican president was considered to be among those resistant to barrier gestures.
Mexico is, after the United States and Brazil, the country with the most deaths from Covid-19 (147,614).
