Hildesheim (dpa / lni) - In the trial against a former pastor for commercial fraud and forgery of documents, the accused is expected to testify today.

The 61-year-old has to answer before the Hildesheim district court.

According to the indictment, in 163 cases he should have submitted falsified or faked receipts or invoices to the Hildesheim Church Office for reimbursement in order to raise money.

The ex-pastor is said to have stolen more than 52,000 euros between September 2012 and December 2016.

He is said to have already paid back around 10,000 euros (Ref .: 20 KLs 12 Js 18186/17).

The self-made receipts showed that the 61-year-old had the church pay for food deliveries, children's and picture Bibles, altar cloths, musical instruments, microphones, music stands, candlesticks, flowers and three piano benches.

Only, according to the prosecutor, in most cases there was no equivalent for the payments.

The pastor headed a parish in Eime in the Hildesheim district and was a board member of the Elze-Eime church association.
