In total, 17 works by Leonardo da Vinci were digitally reproduced in real size, then presented on backlit canvases that adjust to the environment.
The works have more depth
Cristina Di Giorgio, director of the Italian Cultural Institute, partner of the exhibition, explains that this technique gives more depth to the works: “
It's not just photography.
We can see them with tranquility.
Madam Mona Lisa, in this kind of production, we can study it, we can see why there is this magic in the face of the Mona Lisa.
It is the particularity of this exhibition to be able to see all of Leonardo's works quietly with the same colors, the same technique as the original version ”.
A first
This is the first time that the Dakar museum has hosted a world-renowned European artist, assures its director general, Hamady Bocoum: “
In Africa, we only show Africa.
Africans also need to see and experience other cultures from the rest of the world.
We must discover each other and we believe that this museum must be a space for dialogue and meeting
”.
Soon, the
Museum of Black Civilizations is
considering hosting other international exhibitions, for example on Picasso or the Mayan civilization.
