Dresden (dpa) - In Saxony, the new variant of the corona virus from Great Britain has been detected for the first time.

As the country's Ministry of Health announced on Thursday, the mutation occurred in a person from Dresden who had returned from Great Britain.

The health department does not assume that there is a risk of further spread, it said.

The person concerned went into quarantine immediately after arriving in Dresden.

The virus variant was detected by random screening of positive samples at the Robert Koch Institute.

For the first time, the corona mutation from England was detected in Germany on Christmas Eve.

A woman in Baden-Württemberg who had come from Great Britain was affected.

According to scientists, the variant is significantly more contagious than the previously known version.

In Saxony, the so-called 7-day incidence on Thursday was 269.8.

The value indicates how many infections per 100,000 inhabitants were recorded within seven days.

Saxony remains the negative leader as it has for weeks.

Nationwide, according to the Robert Koch Institute, the important Corona value was 122. The data are currently difficult to interpret because there have been delays over the turn of the year.

In view of the tense situation in Saxony and the new virus variant that has now been identified, the state's health minister, Petra Köpping (SPD), demands that the standards for the distribution of vaccines be reconsidered.

«So far, the vaccine has been distributed according to the population of the federal states.

I believe other factors should also play a role in new deliveries. "
