Papenburg (dpa / lni) - After the fire on the museum ship "Friederike von Papenburg" in the Emsland district, investigations into the cause of the fire continue.

"The investigation is still at the very beginning," said a spokeswoman for the Emsland police on Monday.

Investigators could have entered the ship, which is located in the city center of Papenburg, and secured traces.

However, there is still no evidence of the cause of the fire.

"It is determined in all directions," said the spokeswoman.

The amount of damage caused by the flames and smoke cannot yet be quantified.

The fire in the Papenburg landmark broke out on Saturday morning.

A passerby noticed the fire and alerted the emergency services.

As they approached, thick smoke came from inside the two-masted sailing ship.

According to the fire brigade, the wedding room below deck and a kitchen room in the stern of the ship were particularly affected by the flames.

People were not injured in the fire.
