Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is approaching a much quieter turn of the year than usual in the past.

This year, it is forbidden to set off New Year's Eve fireworks on public streets and squares.

Fireworks may generally be set off on one's own property.

Interior Minister Torsten Renz (CDU) appealed to the people in the country to forego the New Year's Eve fireworks entirely this year.

New Year's Eve and New Year's were among the busiest days of the year for blue-light organizations, said Renz and asked for consideration with regard to the corona situation.

This is the order of the day.

"Let the year 2020 end," the minister appealed.

Renz asked the people to comply with the applicable rules and not give the police and fire brigade any reason to be involved.

Contact restrictions apply to the New Year's Eve party: a maximum of five people from two households are allowed to meet.

Children up to 14 years are not included.
