The lockdown was predictable, although Democrats hoped the pressure from Donald Trump would bend Republicans.

Nancy Pelosi and her colleagues in the House of Representatives on Thursday, December 24 proposed an amendment to increase financial aid checks intended for Americans in difficulty.

The original plan was for $ 600.

Unacceptable had said Donald Trump on

Tuesday, calling on elected officials to modify, threatening not to sign the project which had been under negotiation for seven months.

Democrats have offered to increase this aid to $ 2,000, just as the president suggested.

But the Republicans blocked the measure.

A risk of "shutdown"

In the deadlock, the text was therefore sent as is to the White House.

Elected officials now hope that Donald Trump will not carry out his threats.

The ball is therefore now in the presidential court.

In a tweet to the president, Nancy Pelosi calls for "

a quick signature so that we can unlock funds for millions of Americans in need

 ."

If the plan is not signed by Monday evening,

the government risks a "shutdown"

, the administrations will have to close because the government budget is linked to the economic recovery plan.
