The International Hospital Federation honored the Dubai Health Authority for its action plan and the speedy response to the "Covid-19" pandemic.

The authority received a badge of appreciation, after a comprehensive review of the International Committee, made up of 16 experts in the healthcare industry.

The Authority's "Dubai Shield" program also won the "Beyond of Duty for Covid-19" award for its proactive response and the distinguished and innovative measures taken in the face of the pandemic.

The Federation honored Rashid Hospital and Latifa Hospital for Women and Children for their distinguished plan of action in the face of the pandemic.

The authority and some private hospitals in the emirate were also honored by the International Federation.

The "Dubai Shield" program was a preemptive measure that was implemented early last January, as part of rapid measures aimed at reducing the spread of "Covid-19", in addition to increasing testing capacity to the maximum, purchasing drugs and equipment in large quantities, and developing strategies, in terms of facilities and procedures. Isolation.

The Director of Quality and Institutional Excellence at the authority, Dr. Fatima Al Sharaf, said that the authority laid the foundation for a strong system to combat the virus at an early date, and formulated the pioneering Dubai Shield program.

It was able to build new healthcare facilities within 60 days, while such projects usually take seven months.

It also collaborated with the private sector to increase the number of isolation beds available.

It converted 89 hotels and non-medical buildings into quarantine and isolation facilities.

Among the factors that allowed the authority to continue providing health care was the "Doctor for Every Citizen" program, which it launched in December 2019.

The authority’s blood donation center also succeeded in maintaining adequate blood supplies, creating separate pathways for plasma donations, and providing a temporary site for donation.

The Dubai Shield program has also implemented a real-time infectious disease management system, known as the Hesana project.

It is a specialized public health system to monitor and manage infectious diseases and epidemics, by linking governmental and private healthcare institutions in Dubai and their partners with a unified system for managing vaccinations, reporting diseases and managing infectious disease outbreaks. Immunity is considered one of the best technical solutions applied worldwide.

Rashid Hospital was the first hospital in the Emirates and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to accept and manage Covid-19 patients.

To cope with the influx of patients, the hospital immediately began implementing infection control measures, rapidly increasing bed capacity.

The hospital quickly underwent a massive reconfiguration of units and redeployment of personnel to care for patients with "Covid-19".
