China News Service, November 29, reported that a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) showed that the actual number of people infected with the new coronavirus in the United States may be eight times the number already reported.

  According to the CDC, as of the end of September, as many as 53 million people in the United States may have been infected, which is nearly 8 times the number of cases reported at the time.

It is estimated that of the 53 million infected people, about 45 million have developed symptoms and about 2.4 million have been hospitalized.

  Health officials warned that people may carry and spread the virus while showing only mild symptoms or no symptoms at all.

  As early as June, CDC Director Robert Redfield estimated that the number of new coronavirus cases in the United States was ten times the number reported.

US media said that thanks to more extensive testing, this latest estimate may be more accurate.

  According to statistics from Johns Hopkins University in the United States, as of about 8:25 on November 29, Beijing time, the number of confirmed cases of new crown in the United States exceeded 13.23 million and the number of deaths exceeded 266,000.

CDC data shows that since the beginning of October, the number of confirmed cases nationwide has been increasing continuously.

CDC recommends taking precautions such as wearing a mask, maintaining social distancing and washing hands frequently.

It also advises Americans to avoid traveling during the Thanksgiving holiday.
