Columbia (AP) - Sarah Fuller wrote football history with a kick.

The Vanderbilt Commodores player was the first woman to play in a game of the five strongest college leagues in the USA.

Fuller achieved the historic moment on Saturday with the kick-off for the second half of the game at the Missouri Tigers.

She was nominated after a number of players on her team had to be quarantined due to corona infections.

Fuller is actually a goalkeeper for the Vanderbilt University soccer team.

Because of the corona cases, coach Derek Mason asked her for a trial training session and was then convinced.

"That's unbelievable and fantastic," said Fuller even before her assignment.

It is an honor for her to be able to help out the team.

She went into the game wearing a helmet with the words "Play like a girl" written on the back.

She was excited, she confessed after her big performance.

"I want to tell all the girls out there that you can do anything you want," Fuller said.

Their decimated team, however, had no chance in Missouri and lost 0:41.
