Françoise Laurent-Perrigot -

Department of Gard

Françoise Laurent-Perrigot (PS) was elected president of the Gard department this Friday morning.

She is the first woman to take up this post.

This 70-year-old retiree from the civil service succeeds Denis Bouad (PS), who left his seat after his election to the Senate in September.

At the end of the three rounds of voting, she obtained 22 votes, against 3 for Nicolas Meizonnet (RN).

There were 15 empty envelopes, and 4 blank ballots.

Françoise Laurent-Perrigot was alone in contention in the second round, but she did not obtain an absolute majority (24 votes).

In the first round, she faced Joëlle Murré (center), who obtained 7 votes, and Richard Tibérino (LR), who gathered 16. Françoise Laurent-Perrigot had already had 22.

His grandfather and his father have already been elected to the department

"Our fellow citizens expect work, constant listening, and results," said François Laurent-Perrigot, after the announcement of his victory.

I was not everyone's candidate, but I become everyone's president.

The new president was born into a family very involved in politics: her grandfather was president of the department, between 1957 and 1961, and her father was a departmental councilor.

When she died, she was elected for the first time on the benches of the Gard department in 1981. She was also mayor of Aigremont, between 1985 and 2010, and senator, between 2008 and 2014.

In 2001, Françoise Laurent-Perrigot was sentenced by the courts to 10 months suspended prison sentence and a fine of 30,000 francs in a fictitious employment case.
