Hans Lindberg (S), Umeå's municipal councilor, is optimistic and hopes that Umeå's plans for the I20 area will go awry, since the municipal board's business and working committee on Tuesday decided to send a request to the government and Minister of Housing Per Bolund if state land is sold to Umeå municipality.

25,000 new homes
The plan is for Umeå to be allowed to buy the regimental area and for the Armed Forces to remain, but move its operations to another area.
If this becomes a reality, it could enable 25,000 new homes.
- I hope that we will be able to go further and concretize and start discussing this more at the beginning of next year, Lindberg says.
