Germany without its main holders beat the Czech Republic 1-0 on Wednesday in Leipzig in a friendly, and was a little reassured before the two upcoming Nations League games against Ukraine and Spain.

Luca Waldschmidt, the Benfica Lisbon striker who celebrated his fifth selection, scored the only goal of this game behind closed doors in the 13th minute, well served by the neophyte Philipp Max, left side of PSV Eindhoven.

This German "B" team could have folded the game much earlier if their attackers had not missed several clear chances.

But the Mannschaft, which remained on four draws and only one victory in five meetings, was again feverish and trembled in the last minutes.

For the Nations League, Saturday in Leipzig against Ukraine, and next Tuesday in Spain, Joachim Löw could change at least seven or eight players, to reinstate the stars left to rest on Wednesday, Timo Werner, Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sané, Toni Kroos and Emmanuel Neuer in particular.
