They noted that Mezhiev "does not threaten the French in any way."

"He only explained that Macron's supporters who support him in hanging cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) are enemies of Islam and the entire Muslim Ummah," the press service said.

The representative stressed that the muftiate has always opposed both terror in any of its manifestations, and against Islamophobia and caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.

Earlier, Mezhiev called Macron's actions "an attack on Islam."

According to him, the French leader, with his support for the teacher killed because of the cartoon, incites "Muslims to provocative actions."

A number of Muslim countries have announced their intention to boycott French goods because of Macron's statements about Islam. In particular, he promised "not to give up caricatures" of the Prophet Muhammad.
