See how the young people feel in the bicycle workshop in the clip.

In a temporary bicycle workshop in Hjällbo center, young people have gathered in the middle of their autumn break.

Here they will repair bicycles that residents in the area hand in.

Getting your bike repaired costs nothing, as the bicycle workshop is part of a larger investment with autumn holiday jobs for young people in Angered.

Behind it is what is called the Competence Project.

An initiative started by Angered's district administration in 2019 with three main goals: to help young people with jobs, school and a meaningful leisure time.

Today, the project is under Save the Children.

- We want to create conditions for young people to end up in a positive environment with other young and safe adults.

There are many young people who are affected by other things in their free time and other forces, unfortunately, says Chiaco Aslani who is the coordinator for the Competence Project.

"Focus on creating holiday jobs"

A total of 60 holiday jobs have been created in four areas.

In addition to repairing bicycles, the young people work with sports, painting and creating social dialogue.

The young people's salary comes from a special pot from the district administration that the Competence Project applied for.

- From the start, we have focused on creating holiday jobs and internships for young people, says Chiaco Aslani.

This summer, the project was also behind several summer jobs.

And Aslani points out that they have succeeded through a great collaboration between several, including the district, Save the Children, Angeredsgymnasiet, housing companies, associations and other local actors.

Now he is hoping for something long-lasting.

- Many point efforts and temporary things are made in these areas.

But this is so crucial for these young people and for them to find something positive and develop, we need something that is permanent.
