China News Service reporter Ma Xiuxiu

"Art is elegant but not cold. It is wrong to think that art should not interact with ordinary people; if art loses the soil of ordinary people, it will inevitably not develop." Peng Fei, Chief Representative of Austria Mobius Art Foundation in China (Originally named Lu Pengfei) described the relationship between art and the people in an exclusive interview with a reporter from Chinanews.com.

On the same day, the reporter arrived at the Foundation's meeting room located on the East Fourth Ring Road in Beijing as scheduled.

Pengfei had just returned from attending the second Kaifeng International Cultural Finance and Trade Forum.

Before he could stop, he quickly sorted out his thoughts and responded to reporters' questions.

He said that the foundation aims to make the social influence of culture and art more popular on a larger scale; it has also been working hard to explore grounded literary and artistic forms, and contribute to the promotion of Chinese excellent traditional culture to the world and the mutual understanding between Chinese and foreign people.

Twenty years abroad, he moved to Hungary, Britain, Austria and other countries, worked as a waiter, grew from a reporter in Chinese media to editor-in-chief and president, and finally entered the Mobius Art Foundation in Austria as the team leader in China Although Peng Fei has undergone many role changes, his sincere heart and cultural sentiment have remained the same.

"I think the two words "feelings" are very important. If a person has no feelings, it is difficult to pass on and continue doing things." He told reporters that his past overseas experience has increasingly aroused his China complex; and he joined the Austria Mobius Art Fund Yes, it also allowed him to start threading the needle for Sino-foreign cultural exchanges.

Start from bit by bit to win respect for the Chinese nation

During the interview, Pengfei expressed emotion that the strength of China and the improvement of its national image have made overseas overseas Chinese proud; and as a member of the Chinese people, overseas compatriots can also start from small things to win more respect for the Chinese nation.

In 1999, at the age of 19, he followed in his father's footsteps and went to Hungary alone.

The glory of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the past made the passionate young man full of dreams, and Peng Fei was full of ambition.

"When the plane was about to land, I saw the sight of the city there, and I thought that my new life was about to begin." He said that he wanted to make a career at the time, and then returned home.

However, the encounter when the plane landed splashed him with "cold water".

"At that time, the airport staff ordered all citizens holding Chinese passports to stand aside and ask people from other countries to pass through customs first." Peng Fei told reporters that in Europe, which is relatively inclusive, Chinese people are treated like this. Make him unforgettable forever.

He introduced that at that time Europeans had a stereotyped impression of Chinese people. Even if they walked on the streets neatly dressed, they would be mistaken for Japanese and Koreans. Many overseas Chinese had similar experiences in the early days.

However, the success of Beijing's bid for the Olympics in 2001, the success of the "Shenzhou V" manned spaceflight in 2003, and the successful hosting of the 2008 Beijing Olympics changed the status and situation of overseas Chinese.

To this day, Peng Fei still clearly remembers that one day in 2003, a strange foreigner took the initiative to talk to him while walking on the street.

After learning that he was a Chinese, this foreign friend gave him praise without hesitation.

"He told me that the Chinese are really amazing, you can host the Olympics, and your astronauts are also traveling in space."

Peng Fei said that behind this change are the efforts of the country, overseas Chinese groups and individuals. "Everyone should start from bit by bit to win more respect for our nation."

Become a foundation, do things with feelings

Before joining the Mobius Art Foundation in Austria, Pengfei had nearly a decade of experience in Chinese media and learned about the existence of multiculturalism in different regions and different people.

While rethinking the direction of his life, Peng Fei met his fate with the Foundation.

When talking about the foundation topic, a foreign friend said bluntly, “Chinese are used to establishing chambers of commerce and fellow villagers’ associations, but no one has devoted themselves to the establishment and operation of foundations. There are even no Chinese among the executives of mainstream foundations.” Pengfei wanted to respond with action.

By chance, he learned about the Mobius Art Foundation in Austria.

The predecessor of this foundation was the Austrian Mobius Asian Art Center, which was jointly initiated by overseas Chinese from Austria, Germany, Belgium and mainstream artists from the host country.

Based on this foundation's relationship with the Chinese, Pengfei became one of them in 2015.

In 2016, the Foundation China officially landed in Beijing to carry out business, bringing more than 40 classic artworks created by masters such as Picasso, Miró, Dali and other masters to China, through academic exchanges, commercial exhibitions, and government cooperation. Chinese people and art lovers have a close experience of the charm of Western classic culture and art.

In the past four years of development, the Foundation China team not only successfully curated the first to the third Pingyao International Sculpture Festival, but also created a cultural and artistic difference with industry leaders such as R&F Group, Everbright, and Lenovo. Form of cooperation.

At present, the foundation's China team has created nearly one hundred cultural and artistic activities in China with the government and various commercial organizations; except for the film and television industry, the foundation’s participation in art forms almost covers graphic art and sculpture art. , Music, intangible cultural heritage, stage plays, public welfare, etc.

"A foundation is different from a commercial company. It is sentimental." Peng Fei said that profitability is not the ultimate goal. The foundation has its own standards and dimensions for cooperation choices.

The Austrian Mobius Art Foundation introduces the best overseas art resources into China, and at the same time strives to export China’s best art resources abroad. According to the needs of partners, it tailors the form of presentation to let the cultural and artistic influence Get more widespread promotion in a larger scope.

According to Peng Fei, the foundation also looks forward to using its platform to train more industry leaders for major cultural and artistic institutions in China. “I think this is the best expression of the foundation’s value. It will not only achieve its own development, but also promote the entire industry and society. Human development."

2020 is the year when China will decisively win the building of a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way and fight poverty.

Pengfei believes that when the material life of the Chinese people is fully satisfied, everyone will have more needs for spiritual life, and the field of culture and art will have broader development prospects.

Literary and art connecting people need to be grounded

"Art is interlinked." In the interview, Pengfei mentioned that culture and art are the common human wealth of all mankind and can play an important role in friendly exchanges between China and foreign countries.

During the first Pingyao International Sculpture Festival, the Austrian Mobius Art Foundation invited several world-renowned curators to inspect the ancient city of Pingyao.

Without interpretation, the curator of the 12th Kassel Documenta, Ruth Noak, stared at the 2,700-year-old Vedic statue in Shuanglin Temple and shed tears. She said, "I miss me I have understood the cultural connotation of this gem, and his eyes have told me everything."

Pengfei said that regardless of nationality or language differences, people's pursuit of art is the same; no matter how international relations change, cultural and artistic exchanges between different regions will never be interrupted.

Pengfei believes that China is welcoming a period of historical opportunity for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and the importance of history, culture and art has become increasingly prominent.

"When people from different regions recognize and respect the excellent Chinese traditional culture and art from the bottom of their hearts, mutual friendship will naturally last for generations."

In his view, literary and artistic communication with the people needs to use the other side's easy-to-accept expression, to do grounded literary and artistic exhibitions, and to gradually increase mutual understanding through the form of favorites.

"Some museums digitize antiques, and some art galleries digitize paintings for display. This way of making treasures alive is great."

Years of working experience has made Pengfei realize that overseas people have solidified the concept of Chinese culture and do not know much about the accumulation of traditional Chinese culture.

He said frankly that the Foundation China is also trying to use empathy, using dynamic displays and interpersonal interactions that are acceptable to overseas people to accumulate resources, cultivate talents, and create an innovative model for disseminating traditional Chinese culture, so that overseas people can fully understand The 5,000-year Chinese civilization that has not been interrupted and continues to this day has played its part.

"The road is long and long." Borrowing Qu Yuan's verses, Peng Fei said that connecting people's minds with art is a gradual process. If the foundation is solidified, word of mouth, and water drop through stone, overseas people will naturally feel the charm of traditional Chinese culture. From the bottom of my heart, I am willing to be friends with a common destiny with us.
