Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons will come into effect in January next year 50 countries and regions ratified October 25, 6:28

The number of countries and regions that have ratified the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which bans the development, possession and use of nuclear weapons, has reached 50, and the treaty will come into effect in January next year.

This was revealed by a UN executive on the 24th to an interview with NHK.

This marks the first time a treaty that states that nuclear weapons are illegal comes into effect.

The countries promoting the treaty and international NGOs want to increase the pressure to abolish nuclear weapons by taking effect, but nuclear-weapon states such as the United States, Russia, and China and allies such as Japan, which depend on the nuclear deterrence of the United States, participate. However, the issue is how to ensure effectiveness in the future.
