October 22, 2020 The health emergency linked to the Covid-19 pandemic is becoming more serious in Europe by the day.

In the last few hours, both Spain and France have exceeded one million total infections, in an acceleration of the incidence of the disease at the moment unstoppable.

In the Iberian country, the latest bulletin speaks of 16,973 new positive diagnoses, the record for daily notifications with an increase of 10.7% more than a week ago.

Virtually all the territories increase their incidence compared to a week ago, with two exceptions: the Canary Islands and Madrid.

In France, while the executive is preparing to put new metropolises in a state of "scarlet emergency" which provides for stringent health containment measures, including a curfew (as is already the case in Paris for example), as announced yesterday by the spokesman of the Gabriel Attal government, the epidemic continues to mount relentlessly.

Santé Public France yesterday recorded 166 deaths which bring the total number of Covid victims to 34,048, of which 23,036 died in hospitals.

The latest bulletin of the transalpine health authorities also speaks of 26,676 new infections, with a positivity rate that increases day by day by 13.7% yesterday against 13.6% on Tuesday.

The number of new ICU admissions also continues to rise.

This indicator is particularly monitored by the authorities, who fear an influx of patients that would clog the emergency and resuscitation wards.

There have also been 1,584 new admissions to intensive care units in France in the past week.

The current national capacity is about 5,000 beds in intensive care.

In its daily report, the government indicates that 2,239 people are currently in this kind of wards, of which 284 were welcomed yesterday.

In all, 9,375 patients were hospitalized in the last week due to the new coronavirus with an increase of 1,754 in 24 hours.

And unfortunately the situation in the Hexagon could become even more problematic given that 1,852 clusters are under strict control of the health authorities, or 139 more than on Tuesday.
