The incident of an Iraqi woman throwing her two children from the top of the Imams Bridge linking the areas of Al-Adhamiya and Al-Kadhimiya in central Baghdad to the Tigris River a few days ago provoked angry Iraqi responses on social media, and calls emerged to keep children away from marital disputes.

Yesterday evening, the Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced that the river rescue had found the infallible child near the Sarafiya Bridge in central Baghdad, indicating that it had not yet been able to find her brother, "Free", who was still submerged in the waters of the river since their mother threw them on Saturday evening.

The incident of a 28-year-old woman throwing her two children due to disagreements with her ex-husband left a shock to the Iraqi street and observers.

Cartoonist Amer Al-Jazi expressed his opinion with a drawing, commenting that "what occupies his mind is the feeling of the child when his mother throws him to the river."

The snapshot from Bali is what the feeling of the child from his “mother” destroyed him from the bridge !!!

He thought, felt, and shaken from his hand, and he fell into my mouth?

Tweeter Sajjad Jassem asked about not raising public opinion towards women who kill their children, as happened in previous incidents with men, saying, "Why has there been no branding or trend that women commit crimes as well, not just men?"

National solidarity

The issue of the two children, free and infallible, turned into a state of national solidarity against sectarianism, as the residents of the Adhamiya region, which is predominantly Sunni, hosted the relatives of the two drowned children during their search for them in the Tigris River, and they are from the Shia-dominated Al-Sha`ab and Sadr City regions.

"After the tragic event for the two children (free and infallible) and as an expression of sympathy, the families of Al-Adhamiya City honored the people of Sadr City and Al-Shaab City, and provided everything necessary to alleviate the grief of the injured," said Iraqi journalist and author Zikra Muhammad.

Muhammad Samir, one of the notables of the Adhamiya region, wrote, “Al-Adhamiya opens its hostels to their brothers from Sadr City and the people, and we tell them you are our family and your affliction is our affliction.

Activist Al-Farouq Al-Salihi commented, "The sons of Al-Adhamiya set out as rescuers, swimmers and trainers to search for the bodies of the children, and a dinner was held for the souls of the drowned children."

An Iraqi security source said that a quarrel broke out within one of the families between a man and his wife in the areas surrounding the Imams Bridge on the side of the city of Kadhimiya. She meant to throw them into the river one after the other, pointing out that "the first is 3 years old, while the second is 2 years old."

The same source said that the Iraqi police arrested the perpetrator.
