When the doors open to the Great Hall of the Nobel Institute in Oslo, the chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Berit Reiss-Andersen, will appear and announce who will receive the Peace Prize.

There are no strict rules when the name is to be announced.

But according to tradition, it happens at 11 o'clock on Friday the first full week in October.

Secret for 50 years

There are 318 nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize this year.

211 are individuals and 107 are organizations.

The names of those who nominated and those who are nominated may not be revealed until after 50 years, according to the rules.

In 2019, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed received the Nobel Peace Prize.

The recipient of the Peace Prize is chosen in accordance with Alfred Nobel's will by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. It consists of five people and is appointed by the Norwegian Parliament, the Storting.
