07 October 2020Derek Chauvin, the policeman indicted for the death of George Floyd - a crime that has sparked protests throughout the United States and abroad for weeks - has been granted bail upon payment of one million dollars.

The agent, 44, had been held in solitary confinement since last May 31, after his arrest, in the maximum security prison in Oak Park Heights, Minnesota, pending trial.

He paid a million dollars and was released from prison: the news made the rounds of all the American media.

Chauvin is accused of causing Floyd's death by asphyxiation by keeping one knee on the man's neck for eight minutes while in police custody on May 25.

He was released on parole and will have to appear in court in March next year.
