It was on September 24 that the station building in Varberg was closed after cracks were discovered in the building.

It was decided to temporarily strengthen the building and now the Swedish Transport Administration has set up steel beams, and divided the inside of the station building so that it will be possible to stay in, for example, ticket sales and the waiting room.

- Based on the information we have today, we assess that it is safe to stay in the building.

We are confident that we have stabilized the old main entrance and now we see no movements anymore, says Mathias Wärja, the Swedish Transport Administration's project manager for the Varberg tunnel.

The municipality's decision

But it is Varberg's municipality that will decide whether it is safe enough to open the station building again, and by 5 pm on Tuesday, they had not received the Swedish Transport Administration's documentation.

This means that the station building will not open as planned on Wednesday morning - but according to building inspector Marcus Eriksson, they are keen to make a decision as soon as possible.

- We are ready to make a quick decision as soon as we get the data, he says.

Long-term solution may take some time

The long-term solution is decided by Jernhusen, which owns the building, and the municipality.

Either they can decide that the station building should be demolished or that it should be fundamentally strengthened.

But according to Mathias Wärja, it will be a while before the decision is made.
