The governor of Laghman province was driving a car when a suicide bomber threw his vehicle full of explosives at his own.

Among the victims, the bodyguards of this provincial official and dozens of civilians.

Violence has intensified in this province in eastern Afghanistan where the Taliban are very active in some districts.

Hundreds of families have recently had to leave their homes used as shields by the Taliban against government forces, local authorities say.

The attack on Monday, October 5 occurred two days after another in a neighboring province.

A car bomb exploded near an administration building, killing at least fifteen people.

Taliban keep up the pressure

Violence, including targeted attacks against government officials or members of civil society and human rights defenders, is on the rise.

The Independent Commission for Human Rights in Afghanistan denounces a campaign of terror.

According to some observers, the Taliban are stepping up their attacks on the ground, although not claiming all of them, to influence the

peace talks

.

By maintaining the military pressure on the ground, they are showing the Afghan authorities and their allies that they are in a strong position.
